First Beta Release: GUI, Speed and More…
Posted by Sachin Garg on 2nd September 2008 | Permanent LinkAfter many months, finally a beta release. No more geeky command line tools, just a nice simple to use GUI :-)
Whats New:
- A GUI and some minor speed improvements.
- The core is still more or less the same. If you were using the previous command-line builds, this version maintains full compatibility with files created with them.
- I have added the results graph on the home page. You can now get a quick glance at what to expect for your images.
- There is also a supported cameras list now. Its not complete yet, Rawzor supports more cameras than whats on the list but it will atleast give you some idea. I need help from you to confirm support for other cameras and the list will expand accordingly (keep sending in those sample images, loads of them).
Whats missing:
- Multicore support, it will use only one cpu even on your dual core machine :-(
- The ‘time remaining’ estimate in progress bar isn’t as accurate as it should be :-(
- Its windows only :-(
- I know all this is painful , but its a beta after all.
Other than this everything should be rock solid, its already been in a private beta since a while. So grab a copy and give it a shot, I will wait right here for your comments.

Does this beta have an expiry too? I’ve tried the old rawzor command-line and at one point it no longer worked saying there’s a new version available. But when I checked it out, only the SDK for decompression was released.
This program has promise.
Have you considered going open-source with this so that the community can help develop this into a more mature version?

Is it just me or does the compression ratio for this beta version worse than the previous command-line version?
Do you have plans of releasing the command-line version again? Or perhaps update the SDK with the compression function?
Anyway, keep up the good work. Drop me a line if you need help developing this.

Glitch, these early versions will expire with a 2 month cycle (only for compression, extraction will never expire). My apologies that previous version expired before I could release this beta.
I definitely plan to keep it openly usable with the sdk and by sharing format details etc… I am not yet sure about going open-source.
Thanks for the encouragement, I am glad you like it :-)

There is no change in compression in this beta.
The previous command-line tool was just a quick hack, not enough error checking, displaying internal-errors that are meaningless to a user, no batch-processing mode etc…
I plan to do a real command-line tool but it will take time.
